Our fitting upgrade consists of the d-ring, tri-glide and lead clip (where applicable). We do not offer an upgrade to rose gold buckle clips. 

Your dog’s safety is our number one concern, and even though coloured metal buckles may look prettier, their durability and strength is not up to our high standards.

You may be wondering why. If you are, please read our statement below:

At Rocky&Bud, we pride ourselves on delivering style with the substance and durability to back up our slogan, “made for style, thrives on adventure.”  

But we will never place style before safety. 

This means that we’ve made the decision to remove all metal buckle upgrade options from our store. 

All metal buckles available on the market are plated, meaning that the pretty colour is a coating, often over nickel. Nickel is not the hardest wearing metal and can fall victim to environmental factors and wear over time. Metal buckles are susceptible to damage from mud and sand, which can wear down, scratch and clog the springs within the hardware itself. Mud, water and sand can and will erode nickel (and most metals) over time, meaning eventually, for dogs who love muddy, wet adventures, the buckle is susceptible to failure. 

When it comes to the very part of the collar that ensures your dog’s safety, this is not a risk we are willing to take. 

Plastic, although not as conventionally pretty, is much more reliable. The plastic buckles we offer as standard are strength tested (metal buckles are not), rust proof, rot proof and easily cleaned. Mud, sand and water does not wear down plastic over time. 

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, but please understand that, for us, the safety of your dog is more important than anything else.
